David Quinn originally created the original iconic Acorn Slipper Sock in 1976 based on the memories he had of family ski vacations, and time spent padding through the cabin in old-fashioned slippers with socks attached. He worked with a cobbler and local merchants in Lewiston, Maine, to create those first 22 pairs as gifts for grateful family and friends. Since then, Acorn has remained committed to innovative design, high quality, and a level of comfort that is unsurpassed.
In 1982, NASA astronauts first wore the slipper sock while on missions in space, and the brand became famous. Since then, astronauts have logged more than 500,000,000 miles on NASA shuttle missions in their Acorns. As a result, the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum has a pair of Acorn slipper socks on permanent exhibit.
