Bond with Friends and Family over a Game of Bowling

Enjoying yourself with friends and family over a game of bowling is a classic American bonding ritual. In a psychology study it was shown that the most well-knit families in a survey shared time playing a sport together every week. And guess which sport was correlated with the largest families? Yes, it was bowling.

History of Bowling

Bowling, in some form another, has been around for 5000 years. In the 1930's a British anthropologist discovered evidence of a bowling game in ancient Egypt, the game was composed of a heavy ball, and rows of upright sticks. The first written mention of a bowling type game was in 1366 in England when it was outlawed by Edward III. At the time the game was distracting his troops from their practice and duties. Since then, many variations on the outlawed game developed, including Italian bocce, French pentanque, and lawn bowling, but the classic game played in America today may be the closest to the original.

History of AMF Bowling Centers

The origins of AMF Bowling date back to the early 1900s when the American Machine Foundry Company developed a method of mechanically re-setting bowling pins. In 1946, the first 'pinspotter' was unveiled at the American Bowling Congress' annual tournament. Since then, they have further perfected their automated bowling equipment, and eventually renamed themselves the AMF Bowling Company. Today, AMF Bowling products are practically ubiquitous.
