Enjoy Classic Burberry Style at a Discount

Burberry was founded in 1856 when 21-year-old Thomas Burberry, a former draper's apprentice, opened his own store in Hampshire, England and began producing outdoors attire. In 1880 Burberry invented gabardine, a hardwearing, water-resistant, yet breathable fabric, in which the yarn is waterproofed before weaving. Burberry patented the fabric in 1888. He opened emporium in London a few years later, and in 1911 became the outfitter for Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole, and Ernest Shackleton, who lead a 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica.
During World War I, Burberry was commissioned by the British War Office to adapt its officer's coat to suit the conditions of contemporary warfare in the field, resulting in the modern day "trench coat."
After the war, the trench coat became popular with civilians, and the iconic Burberry check was created as a lining for their coats. Over the years, the trench has been popularized by those as diverse as Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther films, and Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. It has been described as "a mainstay in outerwear worldwide, that symbolizes all that is Britain: sturdy and unassuming, equally at home in fine hotels and muddy lanes."
To this day, Burberry stands for the highest quality available in apparel and accessories.
The black, tan, and red pattern of the Burberry classic check was first used as a lining for the trenchcoat in 1924, but during the 1960s it began to be widely used on its own for items including umbrellas, scarves, and luggage.
