It was the booming year of 1894, the candy man Milton Hershey decided to cover his caramels with sweet chocolate. They were a hit. Within a few short years they were in mass production. The milk chocolate Hershey was using had a lower per-unit cost than other chocolates and made a once expensive luxury item cheaper and affordable to all. It wasn't long before the production facilities grew and, soon enough, sugar and cocoa beans were being used faster than they could be imported. Hershey made international connections with his new found success and the delicious milk chocolate began being sold across the country. The immediate success in the first decade of Hershey's chocolate was to be met and exceeded in the 20s, when Hershey had a special machine built to produce conical flat bottom milk chocolate candys called Hershey's Kisses. Hugely popular to this day, in 1924 it was up and up. Hershey expanded to candy bars, to syrups, even to Ration bars for the military in WW2.
